Though many studies have been produced on muyama, The paper firstly and briefly reviews the concept of irony as we believed it has been known by Arabs and Arabic classical criticism, though it has been under different names and terms.

Then the study deals in its main body with the forms of the irony used in some of al-Hamadani's maqamat.

And that is in the shadow of the culture of this writer's age.

That is because we believe that al-Hamadani has used irony to express his views towards so many things, values and the life of the society of his time as a whole.
