This paper discusses how David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross empowers the formal devices at the expense of content.

Profane language, short sentences, wh-questions, and negation become the subject matter of the play, drastically minimizing the supposedly major action of real estate business.

Due to their inability to perceive and their ignorance to realize the American Dream, the major characters in the play scandalously fail to constructively communicate with themselves and others.

They are poorly left with cursing, shouting, and lamenting their unavoidable failing destinies.

With no foreseeable hope as individuals, Mamet broadens the scope of the characters' failure in Glengarry to include similar individuals worldwide.

He makes sure to indicate that the almost impossible-to-be-applied American Dream transcends its individual victims to seriously question the role of the governmental and social institutions claiming to raise "dreamers".

Ultimately, in the absence of applicable Dreams worldwide, what is left for the people but to fill their times with meaningless and repetitive formal devices.
