عرضت جراثيم Escherichia coli إلى تركيز أقل من المثبط الأدنى (Sub-MIC) من كل من 6-Mercaptopurin Methotrexate (50µg /ml), (25µg /ml و (Vinicristine( 200µg /ml كل على حدة, لمدة 4 أسابيع، بعدها حقنت في الفئران المختبرية (Balb/C) بجرعة مقدارها 0.5 مليلتر من العالق الجرثومي تركيز5 ×610 خلية / مليلتر في التجويف البريتون.
أظهرت النتائج زيادة ضراوة الجراثيم المعرضة لل MTX و 6-MP أكثر من تلك المعرضة للVCR و من الأخرى غير المعرضة للأدوية السامة خلويا، فقد ظهرت الأعراض المرضية على الفئران التي حقنت بعالق الجراثيم المعرضة للMTX و 6-MP بعد ساعة واحدة من الحقن و أصيبت بتجرثم الدم بنسبة (100%) و ماتت جميعها خلال 3 أيام كما أظهرت الفحوصات النسيجية وجود علامات التهابية حادة.
أما الفئران المحقونة بعالق الجراثيم المعرضة لل VCR فقد ظهرت عليها الأعراض بعد 3 ساعات من الحقن وأصيبت بتجرثم الدم وبنسبة 2 / 5 ثم ماتت بينما لم تصب الفئران المحقونة بمعلقات الجراثيم غير المعرضة للأدوية السامة خلويا وبقيت جميعها حية.

Isolates of E.
coli were exposed to sub-minimal inhibitory concentration of each of the cytotoxic drugs MTX, 6-MP, VCR for 4 weeks.
Aliquots of 0.5 ml containing 5 x 106 CFU were injected in the peritoneal cavity of Balb/C mice .
Results revealed that the bacteria exposed to either MTX & 6-MP were more virulent than those exposed to VCR or those not exposed to any cytotoxic drug .
After one hour from injection, the mice demonstrated bacteremia at a ratio of 5 / 5 then died within 3 days ; histopathological examination revealed signs of acute inflammation.
Mice injected with bacterial suspension exposed to VCR, have demonstrated symptoms after 3 hours of injection and bacteremia was demonstrated by the ratio of 2 / 5 and the animals died subsequently, whereas no infection was recorded in mice injected with bacterial suspension not exposed to the cytotoxic drugs and all remained alive.
