Abstract EN

This study aimed to investigate the role of the secondary school in instilling in its students the culture of democracy and democratic behavior in the light of the democratic transformation of the Jordanian society from their perspectives.

The study investigated the differences between students’ perceptions in light of the study variables.

The study sample consisted of (1372) students.

The survey questionnaire consisted of two domains : (the culture of democracy) and (the democratic behavior).

To achieve the objectives of the study the descriptive survey approach was used.

Results of the study showed that the degree of the respondents’ average responses on the role of high school in instilling in them the culture of democracy was “high”, whereas, the degree of their responses on the role of high school in helping them acquire democratic behavior was “medium”.

The study also revealed that there are no statistically significant differences between the respondents’ average responses in the culture of democracy domain that can be attributed to the variable of gender and the education authority.

Whereas, there are statistically significant differences between the respondents’ average responses in the culture of democracy domain that can be attributed to their academic stream in the secondary school variable in favor of the literary stream students.

There are statistically significant differences between the respondents’ average responses in the democratic behavior domain that can be attributed to the variable of gender in favor of the females and in the academic stream in favor of the literary stream students.

There are no statistically significant differences between the respondents’ average responses in the democratic behavior domain that can be attributed to the variable of the education authority.
