Abstract EN

This study aimed to identify the most important obstacles facing the participation of university youth in political parties.

It also aims to determine if differences related to the variables of gender, college, and university exist.

The sample of the study composed of 1355 male and female students.

A purposive stratified sample was chosen from three universities (The University of Jordan, Al-Yarmouk University, and Moatah University).

Descriptive statistics were used, as well as t test and Chi-Square to test the relationship between the independent and dependent variables.

The study concluded that university youth do not participate in political parties for many reasons.

Some of these reasons included fear from future danger, dependence of political parties on tribal and regional powers, absence of having an effect on different events, lack of attention paid to the youth, and distrusting political parties due to their out number.

The study also found that some of the most visible factors are related to the economical status of youth students, as well as the lack of their political, cultural, and social awareness.

Findings of Chi-Square test showed differences with a statistical significance among respondents in relation to the role of some political, social, cultural, and economic factors that prevent youth participation in political parties due to the variables of gender and college type.

It was also concluded that the economical status of youth was the leading obstacle facing youth participation in political parties.
