Abstract EN

The flow of international news and information emerged as a serious issue in the early sixties of last century though some studies that traced its historical roots back to the Cartel Era of the early years of last century, when major news agencies at that time (Reuters & Havas) dominated international news flow.

Since then, this issue has become problematic and is expected to continue as such in the near future due to its philosophical origins, the world ideological division, and the tendency of different schools of thought to impose their principles and values at the international level.

This descriptive study aims to provide analytical views regarding this issue, focusing on its historical and philosophical background.

In addition, the study surveys new dimensions in the international communication map and concentrates on flow of international news, brought about by the advent of new communication technologies.

The study shows that the issue of flow of international news and information is unequivocally governed by international relations and power dynamics.

Moreover, it argues that this problem is, in fact, a reflection of ideological conflict among different schools of thought.

The United States of America and other Western countries have dominated this area over the last five decades.

However, modern technologies provide new opportunities for a healthier pluralistic atmosphere and more constituencies to be empowered and heard, which, in turn, will allow a more balanced flow of news and information all over the world.
