Abstract EN

This paper aims at identifying the impact of the various uses of the cellular phone on the family members’ relationships.

To achieve the purpose of the study, the researcher has designed an appropriate questionnaire and distributed it among the members of a sample comprising 2643 Jordanian parents responsible for supporting their respective families in Al-Karak Governorate.

The following is a list of the findings of the study : 1.

The subjects conception was high with respect to the knowledge about the importance of the cellular phone and the range of services available in it along with other specific uses.

As for the subject's conception of the cellular as a social status maker and as maker of the concomitant social behavior, the results were medium.

The subjects’ conception varied with respect to the impact of the cellular phone on the social and economic relationship.

The variability is directly related to gender, age, education, income and area of residence .

The phone bill is too high in relation to the low-income subjects.

The study recommends that campaigns should be arranged to raise the level of awareness among the public to rationalize the extravagant use of the cellular because of health, economic and social considerations.
