Abstract EN

Amorphological and histological study of the olfactory organ has been made in tow species Liza abu Heckle and Barbus luteus Heckle .

the olfactory organ is found on dorsal side of the head and in front of the eyes .

which is elongated olfactory sacs .the olfactory lamellae of the olfactory sacs arranged in Rosette –like pattern and communicated with out side by anterior tubular and posterior oval nasal opening the olfactory sacs connects with olfactory blub by a short olfactory nerve , and the other hand the olfactory blub connects with olfactory lobe by means of olfactory tract .

the results of this study of both species have showed that the olfactory sacs have lamellae arranged in parallel and oblique way with axis of the body .the olfactory tissue consist of ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelial tissue the study has also showed that the distance between the anterior and posterior opening in Liza abu is 0.2 cm and in Barbus luteus is 0.5 cm .
