Abstract EN

This research is an attempt to identify the role of voluntary work mechanisms in disaster management in Sudan.

The concept of voluntary work has been discussed, as well as the main natural disasters in Sudan (drought, famine, and flood).

The traditional voluntary work mechanisms in Sudan which involve; El Rakopa, Baraad El Shai, El Nafeer, El Fazaa, El Halagine, El Yathamout, and others, were reviewed.

Also the research investigates the role of voluntary work mechanisms in disaster management cycle; mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

The research findings pinpointed the fact that voluntary work mechanisms play tangible role in all stages of disaster management in Sudan.

Hindrance to voluntary work which are instigated from the research are; unclear partnership model and weak coordination.
