Abstract EN

The research consisted of three chapters.

The first one is the general outline, which containe an introduction of the problem and objective and importance of the research as well as the limits and terminologies used in.

the second chapter is contains the theoretical framework in whichcovered four topics, the first one is about the German expressionism, the second topic was for the expressionism in Iraq.

The third chapter includes research applied methodologies, which includes analyesing the paintings of karl Schmidt –rottluff and Rasul Alwan, the research sample consisted of 6 paintings and 3 for each.

The fourth and the last chapter contained results and conclusions, the results included define the expression features in the paintings of each artist and making the comparison between them to find matched features, and then reached to a several conclusions, here are the most important ones: 1- the expression features in Rasul Alwan‘s paintings have been related by resemblance or intertext with other artistic styles such as henry matiss, poul klee and modigliany by line and colour formation.

2- in Rottluff‘s paintings, appears the influence of African and primitive art and also the influence of Gauguin by the use of the colour and brush strokes.
