Smoking and it's effects on biochemical profile, blood pressure and heart rate for smokers and non-smokers

The study aimed to understand the influence of smoking on serum biochemical profile in human volunteers .

Twenty six subjects were tested in each group for blood pressure , heart beat, blood sugar, serum urea, serum creatinine , and hemoglobin.

Nonsmokers were selected for the study as conrol group.

Blood samples were drawn from human volunteers by venous puncture and were used immediately for analysis.

There was no significant difference (p<0.05) in serum creatinine between the smokers and nonsmokers ( the cotrol group).While there was a high significant difference (p>0.05) in blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) in smokers compared to non smokers (control group).

On the other hand there were a significant differences in blood sugar (p>0.05),serum urea, hemoglobin and rate of heart beat between smokers group and nonsmokers group .
