This study aims at examining the effect of work stress among police personnel of the Directorate of Abu Dhabi and its effect on their job performance.

As part of its findings, the study categorizes the level of work stress in the representative sample according to a scale from high to low as follows: lack of work progress, lack of organized performance, weaknesses in job security, job size role conflict, lack of systematic performance, role ambiguity, and weak job loyalty.

Using the “Difference Analysis Test”, the study also indicates the presence of statistical differences at the level(α = 0.05) of work stress level in relation to demographic data, the nature of the job, unprofessional progress, weakness of loyalty to the job, role conflict, and role ambiguity.

The findings show that work stress negatively affects the performance of all personnel groups, whether citizens or non-citizens, despite slight differences among them.

The study concludes that, in general terms no individual is free of work stress during his/her working time period.

However, with regard to police personnel, it is possible to work on managing stress in order to decrease it in various police institutions through appropriate training workshops, acquired experience, equal promotional and rewarding opportunities, support of young personnel by encouraging their creative ideas which keep up with modern life style.

These strategies would alleviate work pressure on personnel, increase their productivity, and improve their job performance.
