Abstract EN

This study is concerned with "Oaths in the poetry of Bashar Ibn Burd", a phenomena that delay manifests itself in his poetry.

He swears "by God, by the Lord of Mohammad", "By God's Covenant" "By the Lord of Mina" (The pilgrimage site); "the black stone" (of the Ca'aba) by the If of Ibrahim, "by the pilgrimage, etc...

He resorted to the usage of specific expressions in his Oaths like "I swear to...", "The humble sitter at your door" ; "by my life" , 'by my father's life".

Aside from vernacular versions of "by my life", "by your life".

He is profuse in his usage of Oaths, for he was known to be fickle and inconstant in his beliefs and behavior, and so people had little confidence in what he said.

Thus he resorted to this style, heavy with Oaths, to assent the veracity of his declamations.
