Abstract EN

The main objective of this study is to determine the impact of participation in the Whole Farm Approach program on adoption of some cultural practices recommended for sorghum (Dura) crop, Wada Ahmmed variety.

Participation in the Whole Farm Approach program was considered an independent variable, while adoption of the recommended Dura crop cultural practices represented dependent variables .Eighty participants selected from 8 administrative units were covered with a close- ended questionnaire.

The collected data was analyzed by using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) .Frequencies, percentages and the results of Chi Square test were calculated.

A significance level of 0.05 was used to determine the dependency of adoption of the recommended cultural practices on participation.

The results reveal that adoption of the recommended sowing date, number of seeds per hole, distance between holes, date of the first and second weeding operation and the number of plants per hole, were significantly dependant on participation in the Whole Farm Approach program at a level of significance of (0.000), (0.05), (0.005), (0.000), (0.01) and (0.000) respectively, while adoption of the recommended distance between rows was not significantly dependent on participation.

It was recommended that the Whole Farm Approach should be continued to raise the awareness of farmers about recommended Dura crop (Wad Ahmmed variety) cultural practices, and other related cultural aspects.

More attention should be paid for the positive effect of participation and all farmers should be encouraged to participate in the Whole Farm activities.

Also, more attention should be paid for practicing the recommended distances between the rows.
