English Abstract

-This study examined the application of writing as a process approach in teaching writing to seventh grade students in at Jordanian public schools.

It looked for differences in students' writing after they were taught how to write compositions following the writing as-a- process-approach.

The participants in this study were fourty female students in the seventh grade at Al-Judeidah Secondary School for Girls in the Governorate of Al-Kerak.

The students were divided into two groups: the control group and the experimental group.

The students of the control group wrote their compositions following the traditional way of teaching writing, while the students of the experimental group applied the different stages of the writing process approach.

The study provided evidence of how students' writing in the experimental group improved in contrast with the writing of the control group.

Particularly a clear improvement was noticed in the way that students dealt with the titles which they were asked to write compositions in.

How they arranged their ideas logically, the sequence of the ideas, and the coherence in paragraph formation also clearly improved.

Students became more aware of certain matters like the mechanics of writing, enhancing, and modifying their writings.

The researcher recommends the writing process approach as a method to teach writing skill, and to overcome many of the problems that students have in this productive skill.
