Abstract EN

Emotional intelligence has emerged as an important factor that influence ones success in life, it refers to an ability to identify and control own emotions properly, self discipline, and build and maintain active social relationships with others, even sympathize and motivate them.

The goal of This study was examining the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement of students ,the subjects of the study were (294)male and female students from Baghdad university ,every was asked to fill a set of questionnaires were basically built according to a scale by Goleman including five fields which are(self conscious ,emotional management ,self motivation, empathy &social capabilities ), calculations been made to measure validity and reliability of the scale .

In order to attain the aims of the present research applying the average score for the previous classes ,Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine correlations between emotional intelligence and academic achievement ,also T-test for one sample ,two variance analysis been used .

Results showed that there was no significant correlation between emotional intelligence and academic achievement and the fields of emotional intelligence and academic achievement, also showed that there was no significant difference in emotional intelligence in individuals based on gender and specialty.

This study suggested that programs for emotional intelligence development should be carried out by the students of the college of education.
