Abstract EN

Translation is considered as an added value to each receptor language/culture, and therefore a human activity that realizes considerable interests which vary between the civilizational and the pragmatical.

It has managed to storm the various fields of science to occupy the notable rank it deserves.

Theorists have also sought to find ways of transfer: procedures, techniques and strategies in an attempt to resolve the dilemmas relating to translation.

Among these strategies we find domestication and foreignization, which are the most important strategies in the field of translation because they are the extension of the other strategies from a conceptual view.

The Toponymy ascertains one of the important civilizational dimensions because it incloses hidden cultural statements which load indications and connotations dealing exclusively with a human group.

The reader’s unacquaintance with how the toponym evolved linguistically through time, and of its pragmatical backgrounds and references might result in his/her being foreignized by translation, and driving his/her understanding away.

Translation cannot be fully domesticated or foreignized, but these two strategies will be employed according to the purpose of translation, then according to the audience, who may have a little or a huge specific knowledge of the source/target languages.
