Abstract EN

The Iraqi ancient proverbs and wisdoms are regarded as one of the most important literary production lefty by the Mesopotamians, and some of those productions written down in Sumerian and Akkadian languages what indicates that waters were forming an important aspect in phrasing the oral expressions of many proverbs and wisdoms through which Mesopotamians extracted the lessons and morals which clarity their mode of thinking and the ways which they used to treat many matters which form basic part of their daily life.

Until today we find in our popular proverbs currently used among people what correspond some of those proverbs and sayings although they differed from them in phrasing and study, they come near as to the essence of idea and basic intention in the presentation of proverb that points out to the important of the civilization left by Mesopotamians in this field.

The research has included three axes as following: The first axis dealt with the meaning of proverbs and wisdoms in Arabic linguistically and terminologically, also some of naming and derivations in the cuneiform texts written down in Sumerian and Akkadian languages.

The second axis deals laconically with the importance of proverbs and wisdoms in the daily life.

The third axis, the basic one in this research, has concentrated on selected samples of proverbs and wisdoms relevant to waters.
