Abstract EN

Abstract : the main purpose of this study is to measure the geological knowledge of the Jordanian tourist guides, who play an essential roles in providing and promoting different Jordanian tourism products.

Hhundred licensed tourist guides have been approached and investigated for their knowledge of geological information through a questionnaire.

The instrument encompasses six parts such as: demographic variables, general information and geological questions.

In order to enhance the research, the study plans of universities that teach tourism guidance and tour guiding program at Jordan Applied University College have been checked and scanned for geological information.

The main results emerged from the research showed that the information level of Jordan's geology was 59 % ; and the best result concerned with archeological sites and rocks types (95.5 %).

On the other hand, information regarding geoparks and its distribution worldwide was relatively low (23 %).

Accordingly, the study recommends increasing the geological courses in the study plans at the universities.

In addition emphasis must be placed on Geotourism aspects especially for those institutions which grant tourism guidance licenses.

Geotourism must be taken into consideration as one of the most important tourism products in Jordan.
