Abstract EN

This paper investigated the methods of issuing positive and negative imperatives in Deek Al-Jinn’s poetry.

These are the two directive forms that the poet focused on in his collected poems.

He tried to utilize these two styles to express his feelings and to show the problems he encountered in his life.

The imperative form was very common in his poetry as it was used one hundred times.

The un-affixed imperative as well as the affixed one were frequently used.

The other forms of the imperative such as the gerundial form that represents the imperative, the imperative noun and the imperative with the imperative ‘laam’ were very rare.

The negative imperative forms constituted one-fifth of the occurrences of the imperative forms in general.

They were used to address the second person singular masculine pronouns, the second person singular feminine pronouns, or those words with the ‘noon’ whether light or heavy.

The researcher aimed at highlighting the rhetorical functions of these two stylistic techniques and their effects.

It was found that the poet used the two forms successfully in displaying his love case and in describing his experience with wine and his love to Al-Al- Bait.
