Abstract EN

The purpose of this study was to identify the perceptions of faculty members at Kuwait University about the reality of scientific research in the University, with a special focus on four areas: the importance of scientific research and the interest of teaching staff in research, the university support for research, the availability of sources for information and publications to University researchers, and the quality of scientific productivity at Kuwait University.

To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher developed a questionnaire used previously in the study of Lal (2000) which consisted of 40 items in the 4 identified areas .The questionnaire has been checked for psychometric properties, and then distributed to all faculty members at Kuwait University who hold a PhD, (N= 1229 ).

The total number of the returned questionnaires reached 522.The results of the study indicated a positive perception of faculty members about the reality of scientific research at the University of Kuwait, where the mean score of the responses reached (143.142 ).

The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences due to the sex variable.

However, there were statistically significant differences in the means’ cores of faculty members according to their academic positions: professor, associate professor and assistant professor, all in favor of the assistant professor.

Finally, the results revealed differences in the responses of the faculty members according to college affiliation: faculty members belonging to human sciences colleges scored higher than their counterparts from natural sciences colleges.
