Abstract EN

The purpose of this paper is to examine the Psychological and psychosomatic impact of divorce on male and female divorcees.

It also aims to identify the differences between divorcees in terms of the psychological problems that result from divorce early in marriage or at a later stage.

This study is significant as it is an attempt to provide objective solutions in the form of preventive measures that contribute, in one way or another, to maintaining the mental health of the divorced, and thus to reducing as much as possible the spread of the problems that arise from divorce.

The method used in this research is purely descriptive and the data were collected from a sample of 40 men and 77 women.

The tools that were used in this research include Cornel Test and self-esteem test developed by Sidney Shrauger.

The study used some statistical techniques such as percentages, the correlation coefficient, and the t test to examine the differences.

It was found that the psychosomatic problems and emotional disorders were predominant throughout the whole sample, whereas the level of self-esteem was found to be low.

The impact of divorce on late the stages of marriage was found to have more negative impact compared to divorce in the early stages.

Significant differences were found between both male and female divorcees with regard to the psychosomatic and emotional disorders, where females were more likely to experience such disorders.

There was a significant difference (0.01) between the sexes in terms of the level of confidence in favor of males.

The study proposed some recommendations for forthcoming research, professional intervention and preventive measures to mitigate the impact of divorce on divorcees.
