Abstract EN

This paper tries to analyse the tendency of the Government to allow the banking system to increase the volume of money within the economy in order to cope with the increase of goods and services produced during a certain period.

This increase is the result of government inflationary borrowings from the central bank to finance a public budget deficit, or the result of deposit money created by commercial banks.

The causes and the implications of such a monetary policy are treated in order to find out the advantages and the limits of credit creation within the conventional as well as the Islamic perspective.
