Uterine fundal rupture at 16 weeks’ pregnancy : a case report

Abstract AR

A 24-year-old woman presented to the emergency room at 16 weeks’ gestation complaining of abdominal pain and postcoital bleeding.

Within the next three hours there was a rapid deterioration in her condition with pallor and shock.

She developed generalized abdominal guarding and rebound tenderness.

Ultrasound revealed a large amount of fluid filling the abdominal cavity and a small contracted uterus with abnormal fundal discontinuity in the uterine myometrium.

The fetus and placenta were floating in the abdominal cavity.

Fetal pulsation was absent.

Abdominal distention with guarding and rebound tenderness were pronounced.

Emergency laparotomy and repair of the uterine rupture site was performed
