Abstract EN

This study was conducted on 50 milk samples of breeding stocks in the province of Basrah using vertical polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis to detect the existence of the genetic polymorphism for beta-lactoglobulin ( -Lg ) in Iraqi buffalo.

Used gel documentation in the picturing the samples and convert the gels to real data using specialized software application imported from the university of Cambridge, British.

The study showed the existence of the genetic polymorphism for-Lg gene so that was discovered more than one allele and therefore more of the genetic variants (two genetic variants ) responsible for it two alleles ( A and B ) and inherited according to Mendel's laws, according to co dominance.

The superiority allele was A to allele B ( 0.8 and 0.2 ), respectively.

This is the first study conducted in Iraq to make a survey on the presence or absence of alleles of the-Lg.

Was discovered two alleles and the possible benefit from it in the genetic improvement programs of domestic animals and the preservation of its biodiversity.
