Abstract EN

This research aims at studying characterization techniques in one of Najeeb Mahfooth's novel and clarifying all the means used by the novelist in constructing his characters.

These ways are divided into four sections preceded by an introduction for defining character in the novel and drama.

The first section is a description of the physical characterization like body, features, and the way of clothing.

The second one takes into consideration the description of the characters through conversational dialogue whether be the external or internal.

Human being's speeches is an expression of his insight, his educational level and social state.

The internal dialogue reveals much of the character's insight problems and agonies.

The third section takes the behavior of the character into consideration, in other words, the character is assessed through his/her daily conduct.

The fourth, which is the last section studies certain symbolic characters that play vital role in Character development.

Finally, it is clear that the writer did his best in portraying different types of characters and did very well in showing them as real and full of life.
