Abstract EN

In spite of the fact that our ancestors gave much attention to the study of stars and reached a high level of knowledge in this field, our attention at the present time is limited.

This reflects on the scarcity of research, studies and benefits from the developments in astronomy and its techniques.

This paper concentrates on the study of lunar mansions and its stars.

It aims to note the times of rising of all the 28 lunar mansions for the latitude of Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The directions of the rising of the mansions together with the altitude and azimuth of the highest star in it, an hour before sunrise is determined.

In addition to this, an astronomical properties of the well known stars in it are also given.

In order to realize the objectives, reference has been made to the many sources in our heritage in this field to gether with recent books in English.

Whatever information, concerning the number of stars in each mansion and there astrophysical properties, is contained in these sources is well studied.

Some computer programs for the study of the movements of the sun, the moon, the planet and the stars have also been used in this study.

The study successfully managed to describe the 28 mansions in terms of modern astronomy.

This descriptions is based on the descriptions in the books of heritage as well as the latest books in both Arabic an English languages, and on the use of the modern techniques in astronomy.

The altitude and azimuth of the highest star in it has been determined.

The study also mentions the distance, the size and the luminosity of some of the stars with an aim to show the greatness of Allah and His creation.

It is hoped that this will help the interested people in following and observing the rising of the mansions, especially its first rising.
