Libraries throughout the ages have gone through many stages of evolution, starting from its forms and method of construction and ending with the contents of different cognitive and materials.

These developments have accompanied effect on the role of libraries and information specialist and the skills a librarian should know to do new tasks efficiently.

The great evolution in the field of communications and information technology and networks and the spread of computers and the Internet impacts the changing role of libraries and information specialist.

The virtual and digital libraries are such results of this great development which was reflected on the role of information specialist in this new environment.

Finally, the case of Yarmouk University has been included in this study to demonstrate the impact of the evolution of the library on the role of libraries and information specialist.
