Abstract EN

This investigation was conducted to study the horticultural practices and factor analysis for information sources for rose growers at Al-Taif area.

A questionnaire was designed for collection of the required data from 61 of rose growers via personal interview.

The results revealed that the average age of the examined rose growers was 48 year and the average number of years of experience in rose growing was 24.72 years.

The results indicated that 57.4 % of the examined rose growers used stem cuttings as a vegetative method for propagating rose, 34.3 % of them planted rose at 60-80 cm planting distance, which is greater than the recommended planting distance, and 13.1 % of them used drip irrigation method for irrigation.

Mealy bug insect was the most important insect that attacked rose plantation.

The knowledge of the examined rose growers regarding damage symptom and the methods for controlling diseases and insects was poor.

The study demonstrated that 52.5 % of the examined rose growers carried-out rose distillation method by themselves.

There was great variation in the number of flowers required for production of tola (11.62 cm3) from rose.

It was noted that 73.8 % of the examined rose growers produced one tola from 1000-1500 flowers, whereas, 26.2 % of them used 1500-2000 flowers for producing the same amount of tola (11.62 cm3).

The results showed that 83.6 % of the examined rose growers depended upon interpersonal channels (relatives and friends) as sources of rose information.

This reflects the dependence of the examined rose growers on the old information regarding production of rose.

Educational sources and extension fields as source of information for the examined rose growers ranked last.
