English Abstract

-Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is a relatively new analytical diagnostic technique which has gained serious attention in recent past due to its simplicity, robustness, portability to multi-element analysis capabilities with little to no sample preparation.

LIBS has been used successfully for analysis of elements in different media including solids, liquids, slurries and gases.

Majority of fundamental understanding of the processes that occur has taken place in last decade, which has propelled LIBS in the direction of being a well established analytical technique.

This study, which mostly focuses on LIBS applications, has been able to provide more and new applications to our environment contaminants.

A number of samples from three to 5 samples for each group has been chosen for LIBS qualitative and quantitative analysis for Plastic waste, Lipstick, Asphaltene, Tanned Leather, and Paint samples to determined toxic and contaminants elements like Lead, Chromium, Cadmium, strontium and Cobalt.

The laser pulse on the sample under investigation excite it and plasma formed.

The emitted spectra is collected and analyzed to determine the trace and major elements exist in the sample.

In order to test the validity of LIBS results, standard technique like (ICP-AES) was also applied and the results achieved by LIBS technique was in closed agreement to that of ICP-AES analysis.
