Abstract EN

The Jordanian Constitution of 1952 adopts the prevailing in the parliamentarian system which provides that the king is politically irresponsible.

However, Section 29 of the Constitution states that the king swears in a person to safequard the Constitution and to be faithful to the nation, and thus, he becomes responsible before his conscience to guarantee the application of the Constitution provisions.

But, because of the the absence of a consice mechanism reviewing the constitutionality of laws in Jordan, we have devoted this study to the role of the king's constitutional powers in safeguarding the Constitution.

Therefore, we have diffemtiated between two types of these powers.

The first type is practiced by the king in a wide discretionary powers with a contra signature.

This entitles the king to play a bigger role in interpreting the Constitution provsions.

The king, under the second type of his constitutional powers, plays his roles jointly with the public authorities in the kingdom.

This is represented by an issuing a decision by any of these authorities, in either ordinary or extraordinary circumstances, followed by a royal ratification.

And by this, the king can easily supervise the actions of the public authorities.

In conclusion we attempt to infere the role of all of the king's constitutional powers in safeguarding the Constitution of Jordan.
