Abstract EN

This study explains and defines two human phenomena: envy and the Evil Eye.

A special emphasis has been placed on distinguishing these phenomena from the concept of jealousy.

Using examples from different societies in Africa, South America and the Mediterranean, this study suggests that the practices and beliefs associated with envy and the Evil Eye not only exist in Arab societies, but all across the world.

At the same time, the main goal of this paper is to clarify the socio-cultural aspects of envy and the Evil Eye in Arab culture, exploring and discussing them from the sociological point of view.

The methods of treating and protecting against envy and the Evil Eye in Arab culture will also be discussed.

Finally, this study will examine the substantive effects of these phenomena on the everyday life of people in Arab societies.
