English Abstract

The study aims to measure, analyze and evaluate university students' attitudes and motivation towards foreign languages, namely English, as it has witnessed a shameful decline in the recent years.

A further aim of the study is to gauge the impact of these variables on students' achievements in English. To answer the questions of this study, which is a tip of the ice berg, four hypotheses have been set forth and a random sample of 25 students from Omdurman Islamic University have been selected.

The subjects are third level students, from academic year 2005-2006.

They are in the range of 19-21 years of age. The data of the study has been obtained through a questionnaire and from the results' sheet of the subjects final exams.
