Abstract EN

This study is aimed at discovering patterns of communication that are common among eight-grade students in the cooperative-learning groups through solving verbal algebraic problems.

The sample of the study included 49 students at the eighth-grade level.

This sample was divided into 10 cooperative groups (8 heterogeneous, 1 high-level achievement, 1 low-level achievement).

The results of the study show that the more common patterns of communication used by heterogeneous groups were: sharing initial ideas regarding problem solving, encouraging participation and explaining ideas.

While the more common patterns of communication used by the cooperative learning group who has high achievement were: sharing initial ideas regarding problem solving, explaining ideas, and encouraging participation.

Finally, the more common patterns of communication used by the cooperative learning group who has low achievement were: sharing initial ideas regarding problem solving, asking for help from colleagues, and encouraging participation.

This study recommends that researchers should study patterns of communications among students while solving geometrical problems.
