Abstract EN

The purpose of this study was to investigate the actuality of the statistical significance, the practical significance and the statistical tests power used in published research papers at Mu’tah Journal for Research and studies in the years 1996 to 2000.

The study sample included (301) statistical tests from the types (Flr Fi, t, r) published in 48 quantitative research papers.

The values of each of (rf, F2, d, r) were calculated as it was considered as an indicator for the practical significance, The statistical tests power were also calculated by using Cohen's tables.

Also the mean and standard deviation were calculated, Chi square was used to investigate the relationship of the statistical significance by the practical significance and test power.

The results indicated that researchers used the 0.05 level of significance in 99% of the hypotheses, and they used 0.01 in 1%.

Also it was found that 88.5% of the statistical hypotheses determined the level of significance after gathering data, and the practical significance wasn’t calculated for any hypotheses.

The practical significance was found medium for (Fi and F; )tests and poor for ( r and t) tests.

In addition, it was found that the statistical significance is dependent on practical significance when (F], t and r) tests were used, and independent when (F?) was used.

Finally, the results indicated that the statistical significance is dependent on test power when (Fj, F2, t, and r) tests were used.
