Abstract EN

This paper is an analytical study of a Nabataean–Safaitic inscriptions from a family’s burial tomb from the site of Dier El-Kahf in North East Jordan.

In this tomb, the Nabataean Inscription engraved in the top of the internal walls of the burial tomb hall constitute a form of panel, whereas the names of the dead were engraved in Safaitic writings on the external walls of the graves.

The Nabataean inscription is distinguished by the usage of a new word (M ‘R TA) means ‘burial cave’, which hasn’t appeared previously in the Nabataean Inscriptions.

These inscriptions indicate the existence of a relationship between the Nabataeans and Safaitic via the usage of both writings inside the tomb.

Accordingly, this research discusses the relationship between both Nabataeans and Safaitics through the available inscribed written evidence from different aspects such as geographical, political, religious and linguistic aspects.

Moreover, it shows whether this relation is friendly and peaceful or aggressive.
