Abstract EN

This study was designed to determine the farmer’s knowledge level of farmers about the most important date palm insect pests as the degree of spread, the symptoms, and control of those important insect pests.

The study also analyzes the sources of agricultural information for farmers about date palm in khelase area.

Data were collected through personal interview by using questionnaire for 30 farmers.

The results showed that most spread insect pest in the research area were the date palm red plat mite, greater date palm moth, lesser date moth, date palm stem borer and date palm chafer.

Five percent of farmers do not know something about the spreading level of these insect pests.

The study showed that the most important sources of agricultural information about date palm were agricultural programs spread by radio, television, farmer’s relatives, neighbors and agricultural printed publications.

The most important services and activities carried out by the extension system were visit farmers in their farms and informing them about the insect pests of date palm, dangers phases and type of insecticides used for control.
