Abstract EN

A field experiment was conducted at an apple orchard at Al-Shoubak district, south Jordan during the 1997/1998 seasons to investigate the influence of windbreaks (Cupressus sempervirens) on vegetative growth, fruit set percentage and some other fruit characteristics of Starkrimson apple cultivar.

The results indicated that the windbreaks reduced the vegetative growth, fruit set percentage, fruit numbers and production of apple trees at 4 meter away from the windbreaks either at west or east.

A strong direct positive relationship was demonstrated between the above parameters and the distance from the windbreaks starting at 8 meters away (1H).

There was an increment in fruit weight and total soluble solids percentage of apple fruits trees at 4-meter distance from the windbreaks.
