Abstract EN

Lobarotory and field experiments were conducted to study the effects of sprouting period on breaking dormancy of three potato cultivars during the autumn seasons 1988 and 1989 .

Tuber of three potato CVs: “Bintije”, ‘Claudia’ and ‘Claustar’ were sprouted at three different periods 20, 30 and 40 days after post cold storage at 4+ lc and relative humidity 90-95% then transfered to fluctuation temperature between 18-2 5°C and relative humidity 80-85% for the above sprouting periods.

Results showed that the sprouting periods caused an increase in each of bud growth, sprouting, vegetative growth , number of main stems above the soil surface, tuber yield and marketable yield .

Significant differences were found among sprouting periods, cultivars and sprouting period x cultivars interaction.

Cultivars “Claudia” and “Bintije” sprouted earlier and had longer sprouts per tuber than “Clauster” which sprouted latest.

However, the highest total yield and marketable yield were observed on “Claudia” and “Bintije” cultivars at the 40 days period.
