The objective of this study is to identify the attitudes of the students of Social Studies program at Mu’tah University toward their field of study (Social Studies).
It also aims at examining how these attitudes are affected by the variables of sex, achievement, years of study and the interaction among these variables.
A sample of (311) students (82 male and 229 female) was chosen.
The subjects were selected in accordance with the classified random sampling procedure.
A scale of attitudes toward Social Studies developed by the researcher was used (Appendix 1).
The scale cosisted of (38) items distributed on four domains.
Descriptive statistic was employed to answer the questions of the study.
Averges, means, standred deviations and percentages were obtained for the responses on each variable and the Three-Way Analysis of Variance was used in the analysis.
The study indicated the following findings: 1.
The majorty of the students of of the Social Studies program at Mutah University have negative attitudes toward Social Studies.
2.
There were no significant differences in students' attitudes due to the sex variable.
3.
There were significant differences in students' attitudes due to the achievement factor.
4.
There were significant differences in students' attitudes due to the years of study.
5.
There were significant differences in students' attitudes due to the interaction between the variables of achievement and years of study.
