Abstract EN

This researah aims at studying the role of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) as a regional phenomenon in the international system.

Also, it aims at studying the contribution of OIC towards attaining Islamic Solidarity in an attempt to form a common ground on foreign policies, to realise technical co-operation and to achieve a peaceful resolution to disputes among Islamic states.

In other words, the main idea of the OIC is to promote Islamic solidarty among member states; a concept which differs from that of the Islamic unity.

OIC is a governmental organization founded in 1972, as an Islamic Organization.

Islam is the only criterion for membership.

This study concludes that OIC has an important role in achieving Islamic solidarity since its establishment, but its role in this regard is insufficient when comparing it with its capabilities.

Todate, it has not been able to promote Islamic solidarity based on its loyalty to Islam as a religious phenomenon; its role is still "modest".
