Abstract EN

This study aims at investigating the effect ot teaching a University course in Educational Psychology on the attitudes of students towards psychology.

To fulfill this, the rescracher used an attitudinal scale toward psycholoy, which is proved to be valid and reliable.

The scale consisted of (45) items, classified under the following five factors: Attitudes toward getting knowledge in psychiolgy, attitudes toward the importance and usage of psychology, attitudes toward having a job related to psychology attitudcd toward psychologist, and attitudes toward research in psychology.

The researcher administered the scale to (108) Yarmouk University students registering an ^Introduction to Educational Psycho log y» Course in the second semseter of the academic year 1990/1991.

Then , she taught the students the five course units.

At the end of the second semester of the same academic year, she readmmistered the scale.

Results of this study revealed a significant effect of teaching the course on the attitudes of students toward psychology.

Their attitudes become more positive toward psychology.

This was applicable to the general attitude and to the factors that form it, except the third factor which deals with the attitudes toward having a job related to psychology.

Results of this study were ^interpreted in terms of the notion that attitudes are lamed, and that knowledge represents one of its components.
