Abstract EN
Flow structure in a 180° bend diffusing duct of area ratio 2.0 with inlet aspect ratio of 6.0 has been reported.
Wall pressure, velocity, and turbulence intensity measurements along the diffusing duct have been presented in form of iso-contours.
The pressure recovery along the convex and concave walls are 65% and 45%, respectively.
The overall pressure recovery achieved is only 48% and is significantly lower than the ideal pressure recovery.
Velocity and turbulence intensity contours clearly show the formation of vortical motions.
These are placed between the curved walls of the duct akin to a constant area duct.
The flow is also seen to shift towards the outer wall at the exit plane.
