محددات التجارة الخارجية في إسرائيل 1980-1996

Abstract EN

The purpose of the present research paper is to evaluate the determinants of foreign trade in Israel for the period (1980-1996).

The OLS method was used to estimate the import and export demand functions.

The empirical results indicate that the exchange rate policy did not improve the trade balance.

The elasticity of exports was high and statistically significant with respect to the index of the industrial production for the foreign countries and imports of raw materials.

Also, the elasticity of imports was high and statistically significant with respect to the permanent gross domestic product, foreign investment, import price index and private transfers.

The results indicate the weak reliance of Israeli foreign trade on market forces for improving the trade balance deficit.
