Abstract EN

Mineral industries are considered in may studies as a source of income and pollution to the environment as well.

In this study, the researcher tries to investigate the economic, social, and environmental effects of the potash and cement projects in southern Jordan, and the attitudes of local the people and employees towards them.

Results of the field studies indicate that there are clear positive economic effects of the projects at local and national levels.

However, the projects have negative social and environmental effects.

Regarding poeples’ attitudes, this study shows that all of the employees and the majority of local people support these projects as a method of upgrading their soci-economic levels.

Negative social and environmental effects of these projects, however, exist and have to be manipulated.

Most of the local people who highly support cement projects are old, poor, and have a low level of education and land properties as well.
