Abstract EN

The purpose of this study was to develop a scale with acceptable psychometric properties to measure loneliness among university students, and then to investigate the relationships of loneliness with personality traits and variables.

An initial version was constructed, then it was administered to a sample of university students ( n=363).

Responses were subjected to factor analysis which yielded 4 aspects (subscales) of loneliness.

Reliability and validity evidence was established by many means.

The correlational data indicated that loneliness correlates positively with anxiety, shyness, aggression, and introversion, and correlated negatively with self- esteem, self - disclosure, and internal locus of control.
