Abstract EN

The aim of this study was to examine some of the factors which affected the searching time for names on Arabic topographic maps.

The study sample consisted of Fourty geography students, who were asked to search for names on two types of displays: non - cartographic and cartographic.

The effect of the following variables were found ststistically significant: type style-bold or light, letter size, figure-ground relationship and cartographic symbols.
