Abstract EN

The forest area in wadi Jarash Basin has declined 50% since the 1960's and its density also decreased.

This due to the expansion of urban areas, ag-ricultute, cutting trees and overgrazing.

These factors whcih minimized the density and the area of the forest in the basin, if continues it will affect environmental balance in the future.

Quercus coccifera forest declined from 7.

6km2 to 3.35km2, and its density decreased to 10 trees/Dunum.

Pinus hallepensis forest also declined from 13,6km2 to 5.1km2, and its density decreased to 62 trees/Dunum.

The same results have been recorded for the other species in the Basin, which aslo effect the capability of all treas to be regenarated.

In comparision with the 1990's situation, the urban areas have expanded 10 times and the agricultural area doubled, to reach 18,2 km2 at the expense of forest area.
