Abstract EN

The paper aims at studying two Islamic-Arabic inscriptions from southern Al-Mazar museum, an annex of the mosque of the tomb of Jacfar bin Abi Talib.

The first inscription dates back to the Ayyubid period and dated 647 A.H.

(A.D.

1248 ), while the second one goes back to the Mamluk period and date to 752 A.H.

(A.D.

1351).

Both inscriptions are inscribed on two marble tablets in an-Naskhi and ath-Thuluth.

The methodology of the research used both historical and technical approaches, within the historical framework , all the historical proper names found in the two inscriptions were studied.

The study shows two historical names mentioned for the first time as no previous trace can be found for them in the historical references and biographies.

The two names are Al-Amir Sharaf ad-Diyn ibn Aysa ibn Khalil ibn Muqatil and Sayf ad-Diyn al-Haruny.

The two inscriptions also contained a number of basic and branch titles.

These were studied from the point of historical developmental and functional points.

Within the technical approach, the study analyzed the orthographical patterns of the two inscriptions: ie ,an- Naskhi and ath-Thuluth.

The orthographical charactaristics and aesthetic features of the alphabet of these two patterns are pinpointed.

In addition,the inscribers1 ability in using every possible space on the marble tablet is very noticeable.
