This study deals with questions involving the development of secretaries in the second Abbasid period.
The secretaries were the states officials and secretrial work was the name given to their job.
The secretaries formed a special class and had their own culture and status.
They rose in the Prophet’s era and developed during the following period.
Many factors contributed to their development.
They were appointed in good jobs and became different groups.
The secretaries had a wide knowledge and diverse culture.
They possessed knowledge of diverse subjects, such as: languages, religious sciences, history, biography, poetry, letters and others.
Secretaries formed groups with specialized knowledge and functions.
It is worth mentioning that there were families known for producing prominent secretaries.
